Free Energy and Critical Temperature in Eleven Dimensions

چکیده

We compute the one-loop contribution to the free energy in eleven-dimensional supergravity, with the eleventh dimension compactified on a circle of radius R11. We find a finite result, which, in a small radius expansion, has the form of the type IIA supergravity free energy plus non-perturbative corrections in the string coupling gA, whose coefficients we determine. We then study type IIA superstring theory at finite temperature in the strong coupling regime by considering M-theory on R × T , one of the sides of the torus being the euclidean time direction, where fermions obey antiperiodic boundary conditions. We find that a certain winding membrane state becomes tachyonic above some critical temperature, which depends on gA. At weak coupling, it coincides with the Hagedorn temperature, at large coupling it becomes Tcr ∼= 0.31 l−1 P (so it is very small in string units). January 2001 ∗ e-mail address: [email protected]

Using mean-field and semi-classical approximation of Thomas-Fermi, within a statistical model, equation of state and critical properties of symmetric nuclear matter is studied.  In this model, two body and phenomenological interaction of Myers and Swiatecki is used in phase space. By performing  a functional variation of the total Helmholtz free energy of system with respect to the nucleonic di...

Effects of the sintering temperature on the flux-pinning mechanism and the activation energy of malic-acid doped MgB2

The flux-pinning mechanism and activation energy of 10 wt % malic acid-doped MgB2 were investigated by measuring of the critical current density and resistivity as a function of magnetic field and temperature. A crossover field, Bsb, was observed from the single vortex to the small vortex bundle pinning regime. For the sintered sample, the temperature dependence of Bsb(T) at low temperature i...

Fulx-pinning mechanism and activation energy of MgB2 doped with 10 wt % malic- acid has been investigated by measurement of critical current density and resistivity as a function of magnetic fields and temperatures. The field dependence of the critical current density, Jc(B), was analyzed within the collective pinning model. A crossover field, Bsb, from the single vortex to the small vortex bun...

Random-bond Potts models on hypercubic lattices: high-temperature series expansions*

We derive high-temperature series expansions for the free energy and the susceptibility of random-bond qstate Potts models on hypercubic lattices using a stax-graph expansion technique. This method enables the exact calculation of quenched disorder averages for arbitrary uncorrelated coupling distributions. Moreover, we can keep the disorder strength p as well as the dimension d as symbolic par...

Landau Theory of the Mott Transition in the Fully Frustrated Hubbard Model in Infinite Dimensions

We discuss the solution of the Mott transition problem in a fully frustrated lattice with a semicircular density of states in the limit of infinite dimensions from the point of view of a Landau free energy functional. This approach provides a simple relation between the free energy of the lattice model and that of its local description in terms of an impurity model. The character of the Mott tr...
